Racing On A Grand Scale Begins Soon For BbKRT
The generously proportioned and beautifully executed Motorland Aragon race facility in the north of Spain will host the sixth round of the 2026 FIM Superbike World Championship between 29-31 May.
bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team (BbKRT) regular riders Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani will arrive at the long 5.077km long circuit near the town of Alcaniz shortly after a two-day test at the Misano World Circuit ‘Marco Simoncelli’.
This is a particularly busy period for all inside WorldSBK, as Motorland is the fourth of five alternating race weekends - with one race weekend, then one without, then another race weekend, then another ‘break’, and so on.
With the addition of the recent Misano test sessions, held between 20-21 May, both KB998 Rimini riders and their crews will arrive at Motorland in a state of true track readiness.
After five rounds and 15 individual races - from Australia through Portugal, the Netherlands, Hungary, and Czechia - Lowes sits sixth in the championship, with 101 points, while Axel is now 7th, with 86 points.
If Motorland Aragon has similarities to any of the previous WorldSBK rounds in 2026, it is maybe closest in character to Phillip Island. Both feature long straights and some fast changes of direction, interspersed by slow corners and some sharp changes of elevation. In purely European terms, the Motorland Aragon circuit is simply unique - and it is the only 5km+ circuit on the entire WorldSBK calendar.
WorldSBK action at Motorland gets underway on Friday, 29 May, via two free practice sessions. Saturday features a short FP3 session, then Superpole Qualifying, followed by a full-distance Race One, over 18 laps. Sunday will feature a short warm-up session, then a ten-lap Superpole Race, and finally a second 18-lap Race Two.
The halfway point of the 12-round WorldSBK season will be reached at the end of the Motorland event.
The subsequent WorldSBK Race weekend after Motorland will be held at the Misano World Circuit ‘Marco Simoncelli’, between 12-14 June.
Alex Lowes, stated: “I am looking forward to Aragon. We had a pretty good weekend there last year and it is always a track I really enjoy, especially the first and second sectors, which have some fantastic corners. We know that it may not be the easiest layout for us, especially the last sector, so it is going to be really important to work hard on Friday to make sure that we are maximising sector four the best we can. If we can have a good qualifying and a good track position, the target is to fight for some top five results on the weekend, and work with the guys to make sure we get the best results out of ourselves and our package. I am excited to get to Motorland.”
Axel Bassani, stated: “We go to Aragon positively and with good energy. We know for sure that Aragon will be a difficult weekend, because it is a really long track with a big, big back straight, where we know we will have some difficulties. But we know the Motorland track, so we will work to be as fast as possible on the sections with most corners. And to be strong under braking so that we can recover as much as possible, and then we will see what happens. We did a good job at the last round in Most, so I hope we will continue in this way.”
