Points Scores For BbKRT Riders On Final Day At Most
Autodrom Most in Czechia hosted two WorldSBK races on Sunday, 17 May, with bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team (BbKRT) riders Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani completing the fifth round of the season by gaining some positive results.
In the morning Superpole Race, conducted over ten laps as always, Alex rode from 14th place on the grid to ninth at the end of what was a very ‘busy’ contest. The ‘sprint’ race is especially intense at a track with 21 corners along its 4.212km length. Lowes secured a point for ninth place.
Axel was 13th at the end of the Superpole Race, having been pushed off track early on and then running on once more as he tried to make up places.
In the second full distance race, held over 22 laps, Lowes started from ninth place and Bassani 11th. The BbKRT pairing would each improve on their starting places after a tough final contest that delivered tangible rewards in terms of strong championship points scores.
Alex was finally seventh, and less than half a second from a top six finish. Axel placed eighth in the Race Two classification, having made up ground to the riders in front near the end.
In the championship standings, after five rounds and 15 individual races, Alex is sixth overall and just six points from the rider in fourth. He has a total of 101 points.
Axel’s eight points for eighth place in Race Two see him seventh in the rankings, with a total of 86 points.
The Motorland Aragon circuit in the north of Spain will host the sixth round of the 2026 WorldSBK championship, between 29-31 May.
Alex Lowes, stated: “There was a lot of fighting on the track today, but not too much from me because I couldn’t pass very well. I have missed a bit of confidence on the front of the bike this weekend, so I couldn’t really do my usual attacking, especially while trail-braking. I am happy with the day’s work, especially as we had to come from where we qualified in 15th, having had three crashes between Friday and Saturday, so my confidence was not really there. But we had three good races. The guys did a fantastic job, and we stayed calm. It was not my best weekend, but I think I rode well in the races. Overall, a tough weekend, but we got points in all three contests, and now we look forward to Motorland Aragon.”
Axel Bassani, stated: “It has been quite a positive Sunday. In the Superpole Race, we had a big problem in the first chicane as another rider put me out, so I had to cut the chicane. From there, it was quite difficult, and I also went long in the first corner later on, as I was pushing to make a recovery. With the soft tyre fitted for the Superpole Race, it was pushing too much on the front, so it was really difficult to stop. Even with this problem, our speed was not too bad, so I am happy. In Race Two, we started well, but to overtake the Ducatis is quite difficult, and I lost a lot of time. In the end, I arrived close behind the group of riders in front of me, but then the race was finishing. Again, the front was closing a lot, so I had to manage that, but we finished in P8 and scored good points for the championship. We came back to the level that we know we have, and we will continue to believe and work hard. I am happy.”
